Hyvä replaces Magento's default Luma frontend with a lighter, faster stack — and because checkout is rebuilt, payment methods need modules that are specifically compatible with Hyvä Checkout. A gateway that works on a Luma store won't necessarily render in Hyvä Checkout without a compatibility module. So before you pick a payment provider for a Hyvä store, the first question is simply: is there a Hyvä-compatible integration for it?
This guide lists the payment gateways that currently work with Hyvä Checkout in Magento 2, with the module names, supported versions, and payment methods for the major ones. If you'd rather have the integration handled for you, our Hyvä theme development services cover exactly this kind of work — but here's the landscape either way.
Adobe Payment Services
Payment Services for Adobe Commerce and Magento Open Source is Adobe's own gateway, managed entirely from the admin. It supports card payments, PayPal, and buy-now-pay-later options, with cash-flow and financial reporting synced back into Magento. Practically speaking, its strengths are that it's self-contained in the admin, has transparent pricing, and supports card vaulting and Instant Purchase for returning customers.
Availability
Compatible with Adobe Commerce and Magento Open Source, versions 2.4.4 through 2.4.7-p3. Full onboarding and all payment options are currently supported in:
- United States (US), Canada (CA), Australia (AU), France (FR), United Kingdom (UK)
- Express Checkout (an abbreviated set of payment options) is available for other countries during onboarding.

Adyen (versions 8 and 9)
Founded in 2006, Adyen lets merchants accept, process, and settle payments across online, in-app, and in-store channels through a single platform. It's a strong fit for stores selling internationally, since method availability adapts to the merchant's region. The Adyen module is actively maintained for Hyvä Checkout — see the Adyen supported payment methods docs for the current list.
Methods for 9.x (latest)
- Credit card and stored (tokenized) credit card
- Google Pay, Apple Pay, PayPal
- Alternative payment methods (mostly via adyen_hpp, tied to merchant region)
Methods for 8.x (older)

- Adyen MOTO, POS Terminal [adyen_pos_cloud], Pay by Link [adyen_pay_by_link], Boleto [adyen_boleto]
Authorize.net
Authorize.net, a Visa payment gateway, is familiar to most Magento merchants and is compatible with Hyvä Checkout via the ParadoxLabs module. It handles real-time credit card and electronic check processing, and supports e-check, recurring payments, account updater, and fraud protection.
Supported in Hyvä Checkout
- Place orders with Authorize.net CIM payment
- Pay by credit card, bank transfer/ACH, or stored cards (CIM)
- Payment forms: Accept Hosted and Accept.js (inline credit card is not planned)
- Payment actions: Authorize, Capture, Save Info; terms & conditions validation at checkout
Braintree
Braintree, a PayPal subsidiary, works as a full payment orchestration platform rather than just a gateway — connecting to multiple payment service providers, optimizing authorization rates, and supporting a wide range of methods. In Hyvä Checkout it supports:
- Credit card, PayPal, Google Pay, Apple Pay
- Venmo, ACH, and local payment methods (LPM)
Other Hyvä-Compatible Payment Gateways
Beyond the four above, many more gateways have community or vendor-maintained Hyvä Checkout compatibility — a good sign of how quickly the ecosystem has matured. These include:
- Checkout.com, Stripe, Klarna, Mollie, MultiSafepay, Worldline, Buckaroo, Rvvup, Super Payments
- Cardstream, HiPay, Pay.nl, Payever, Payone, Payplug, Quickpay, Rabo Smart Pay, SagePay/Opayo, Viva Smart Checkout, PensoPay
- Regional options: PayPo, TPay (Poland), Santander eRaty (Santander Bank Poland)
Which gateway is right depends on your store: the countries you sell to, the methods your customers expect, security and multi-currency needs, dashboard and reporting, and the total cost of the integration. When comparing options, weigh supported payment methods, security and privacy, ease of integration, multi-currency support, analytics, and pricing together rather than on price alone.
Wrapping Up
The Hyvä payment ecosystem has grown quickly — from the admin-native Adobe Payment Services to region-flexible options like Adyen, familiar gateways like Authorize.net and Braintree, and a long tail of community-supported integrations. The right choice comes down to your markets and your customers' preferred methods; just confirm a Hyvä Checkout-compatible module exists before you commit.
